Training to deal with Hazardous Materials
Training drills are conducted to practice and refresh the skills gained at
the VTEC training courses. Training drills may vary from a hot fire and vehicle
rescue scenario to a night where knots and radio skills are practiced.
Training is vital to the efficiency of the fire brigade. To know where the
equipment is on the vehicle, what is the chain of command, how to use the
equipment, how to engage in an incident safely, how to deal with the public, how
to deal with victims, what communications are required and to be familiar with
Standard Operating Procedures may make the difference between a successful
completion of the incident or an incident with a less desirable outcome.
At the Busselton fire brigade, training drills are conducted at regular
intervals, sometimes as inter agency drills with police and ambulance, to get to
know their procedures as well.
